The Anglican Church is committed to a carbon reduction target of 80% by 2050 and that’s a lot. We were selected, with Robert George and Brian Cuthbertson, to help manage the carbon reduction of St Andrews through a grant.
To achieve any results we need to assess the way energy is used and monitor this. The key word here is Benchmarking and that’s where we are now.
The first stage works are in progress – to remove the oil fired boiler. But with what, where and how? The analysis of the use of the building is critical – a night shelter, erratic use of the building and an impossibly big heat loss are all part of the conundrum which is the Environmental Challenge.
